Once the kick is made with a synth, then add Pultec style EQ. Then add 1176 style compressor (the order for the 1 EQ and compressor can be different, it depends on source material). Adjust the Putlec again. Then it is up to you, if saturation or EQ (second one) will be next. For equalization don't use a digital EQ (aka FabFiler EQ), you will be lost, if you don't know what you are doing. Probably end up with boxy BS. Just use API Eq (that with 10 bands sliders). It does the job with kicks all the time. Then back to synth and ajust the pitch modulation amount to control the punch.
