Re: What's your favorite synth for sound design?sqsddre

i think a lot of the confusion around fm (other than so many synths using it to describe phase modulation) is that it’s presented in so many wildly different ways depending on the synth you’re using. personally i find phase plant to be the best way to show someone that’s learning how it works- you simply choose what you want to modulate and what you want to be modulated and make the connection and because it’s all connecting parameters you’re able to use anyway it makes sense in terms of or what’s actually happening specifically. and by adjusting the harmonic parameter to find your sound you’re establishing a ratio in a way that it’s not just random numbers but things you can visualize or at least wrap your mind around. and of course you can set linear and exponential fm along with pm to get a concept of how they differ

maybe im crazy but thats a much easier way to grasp it than just choosing a couple numbers of that you don’t know what they represent in a tangible way. synths are pretty universal with a lot of things but for some reason fm synths are represented in all kinds of unique way.

as far as my go to synths for sound design, big surprise phase plant is #1 for me. some others i tend to gravitate to are massive x, reaktor, the dawsome stuff, generate, alchemy, vital, logic sculpture, and i’ve been getting into zebralette 3 which is immensely powerful but i still have to get more time on it before i turn to it to design a sound i need for a project- right now im just experimenting with it. i’ve been using noise engineering stuff a lot more lately as well for sound design, their stuff is powerful and pretty unique. i have the 2 synths from the free bundle, and i bought loquelic and basimilus along with their 32 tap delay imitor. and i truly love their amazing free distortion ruina. eventually i’ll probably get the all their stuff as im a fan of their approach for the most part. but at the end of the day i turn to phase plant probably more than every other synth i own combined

i wrote all this while working on like 10 different things at the same time and i’m on 2 hours sleep so if this post makes no sense at times, sorry
