If you really pay attention, these sounds have an organic timbre. They're like their own acoustic instrument. Each sound is a creature. The Fuji Opener stab has this metallic sound that almost sounds like a drum but isn't. The Jungundra stabs sound like a voice saying sa sa sa but combined with a flute, and the scut stabs sound like an alien. As a musician I will dedicate years to reach this level of detail in my sound design.
I have a few ideas, but my guess is that these sounds are many samples that are layered and resampled over and over (skrillex always bounces to audio). Maybe the Fuji Opener sound is a drum sample that is volume shaped and layered with noise. When I looked closely the timbre of each stab was different, meaning it could be an acoustic drum sample with post processing and layering. Maybe the flute sound in Jungundra is a flute sample with a vocoder with the input of another voice sample. Or I could be wrong and these are all made with a synth or maybe a synth layered with a sample.
At the end of the video you'll see that I tested my hypothesis of Fuji Opener by finding a drum sample and vocoding it to add high end, tweaking the pitch, and I got something similar but there's still something missing. Maybe the Fuji Opener stab is a synth as it smoothly transitions into a wub in the next few seconds after the section I played.
Has anyone gotten close to any of these sounds or achieved this level of acoustic detail in their sound design?
